Starting Services: The Process
Getting yourself or a loved one started with ABA therapy can feel overwhelming, but at Graham Behavior Services, we strive to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.
At Graham Behavior Services, we are dedicated to making the process of starting therapy as smooth as possible for your family. Below, we outline the step-by-step process to ensure you understand what to expect when beginning services with us.
Step 1: Initial Inquiry
The first step is a phone consultation with our team to discuss the needs of your family. This helps us understand the type of services you are looking for and how we can best support you.
Step 2: Insurance Verification
We will contact your insurance provider to verify if your plan covers the services you need. Our team will confirm your in-network and out-of-network benefits to ensure transparency in coverage.
Step 3: Follow-Up
Once we have your insurance details, we will follow up with you to provide a breakdown of your benefits. If services are covered, we will discuss your preferred therapy schedule. If they are not covered, we will explore alternative options to help you receive care.
Step 4: Assigning a Team
If we have a provider available in your area, we will assign a dedicated team to your child and introduce them to you.
Step 5: Initial Family Meeting
After assigning a team, one of our directors will meet with you via video chat. During this session, we will review the necessary paperwork, explain the therapy process, and answer any questions you may have.
Step 6: Insurance Authorization
Once all paperwork is completed, we will submit an authorization request to your insurance provider. Approval may take up to two weeks, depending on the insurance company.
Step 7: Initial Assessment & Treatment Plan
Once authorization is granted, your provider will begin the assessment phase. Over several weeks, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will conduct a comprehensive assessment and develop a customized treatment plan tailored to your child’s needs. This plan will be reviewed with you before it is submitted to insurance for final treatment authorization.
Step 8: Treatment Authorization
After the insurance company approves the treatment plan—typically within two weeks—therapy services can begin. ABA therapy authorizations typically last six months, with reassessments at the end of each term.
Step 9: Starting Therapy
Your therapist will focus on building rapport with your child to create a comfortable and enjoyable therapy experience. After a few sessions, they will implement the approved treatment plan. A BCBA will supervise the therapist for approximately 20% of the total therapy time to ensure quality care.
